Finding the Best Anxiety Attack Cure

Everyone feels nervous once in a while, but anxiety attacks are a whole other matter. If you suffer from chronic anxiety attacks, you know exactly what I mean. If fear of rejection has led you to distance yourself from people, especially groups, there are several specific things you can do.

First and foremost, you need to build a sense of your own self-worth. In addition to this, cognitive-behavioral therapy offers three specific types of interventions:

Social skills training

Graded exposure to social situations

Cognitive-behavioral drugs for panic attacks therapy

Social skills training may be appropriate if you feel at a loss about how to converse with people in small or large groups. You can gain proficiency in starting and maintaining conversations, drawing other people out, listening, maintaining good eye contact, and achieving self-disclosure through role-playing these skills with a family member or a therapist.

You can also role-play more specific activities such as interviewing for a job, using small talk at a party, or asking someone medication for panic attacks on a date. Once you gain confidence in such skills with a supportive friend or therapist, you can begin to try them out in real life.

Graded exposure to social situations involves setting up a series of specific activities that you commit to doing, either with the help of a therapist or on your own. The series of activities are arranged in a "hierarchy" from easiest to most difficult. A typical hierarchy might look like this:

INITIATING CONVERSATIONS:

1. Call two stores to ask if something is in stock.

2. Call a counseling hotline and talk about yourself.

3. Attend a small meeting and say your name.

4. Attend a small meeting and make two comments.

5. Repeat 3 and 4 with a small group of friends.

6. Attend a social gathering and stay for twenty minutes.

7. Same as 6, but stay for an hour, responding when other people talk to you.

8. Same as 7, but you initiate at least two conversations.

9. Initiate conversations while waiting in line with people you don't know.

10. Walk up to someone in a shopping mall and make conversation.

You might also construct a hierarchy for one specific type of behavior, breaking it down into a series of steps. For example, in learning to ask someone out for a date, you might practice with people listed through a dating service before you try walking up to someone at a party.

Cognitive-behavioral group therapy, if available in your area, is perhaps the optimal way to overcome social anxiety and a fear of participating in groups. In such a group you work on challenging and countering socially phobic thinking i.e. self-statements such as "I'll humiliate myself," "People will think Im weird because I dont know what to say," or "What if they see me blush?"

In addition, you practice speaking up, expressing your ideas, sustaining conversations, asking for what you want, responding to criticism, and engaging in other types of activities relevant to participating in groups. By continually practicing activities you previously avoided in a supportive group setting, you can learn to desensitize to them and gain confidence in yourself.

If cognitive-behavioral group therapy is not available in your area, you can still do the work with a therapist experienced in working with social anxiety or social phobia. treatment for panic attacks you can try out what youve learned in various group settings, beginning with situations you deem "easy" and progressing to more difficult ones.

Learning to speak up or express your ideas, for example, can be practiced first in a class or workshop and ultimately at a toastmaster's meeting or a similar training in public speaking.

Overcoming long-standing shyness or social anxiety takes work and sustained commitment on your part. You may find it somewhat easier under the guidance of a skilled cognitive-behavioral therapist who is familiar with social anxiety and social phobia. In some cases, medication can also be helpful.

Current treatment strategies for more severe social anxiety combine therapy with an SSRI medication such as Paxil (or a benzodiazepine such as Klonopin). This combination of therapy and medication seems to be very effective for many people.

Not everyone with insomnia suffers from anxiety as well, and neither the reverse, but they're not two completely unrelated disorders/diseases either. Some might say that anxiety isn't even a disorder or anxiety cure abnormality, but just a symptom of living a human life that everyone has natural healing anxiety deal with.

I don't buy into that. It might not always be bad to be something other than "normal", but I think we should call it what it is. Please, and this is huge - do not do yourself the injustice of viewing tomorrow based upon how you think, feel, and behave at this particular juncture in your life.

Remember - your mind has been introduced to so much false identity, and it's taught itself so many sideways coping skills. I mean, it had to. Had it not, some aspect of your very survival would have been in jeopardy - or so you thought.

Listen, all I'm asking you to do is realize that your view of yourself and the world, and your subsequent reactions, are a little goofy just now. And that's really good news if you can just imagine all the new strength and power with which you'll be endowed when you get your thinking, feeling, behavior, and identity straightened out.

For now - take your current perspective, thinking, feeling, and behavior with a huge grain of salt.

Don't let them influence your vision of what today really is - and what the future can be.

If you want to stop panic attacks, one of the best things you can do is learn how to turn off your mental autopilot.

That might sound like gibberish to you, so let me explain what your "mental autopilot" actually is.

During the day, do you ever catch yourself having thoughts that you would rather not be having? I know I do. In fact, I think this could be said of everyone.

You know the kinds of thoughts I'm talking about.

The damaging daydreams and fantasies and scenarios you play in your head like little movies. Occasionally these will be pleasant thoughts, but a staggering percentage of them are damaging.

If you don't have a problem with panic and anxiety then this probably won't cause you any real problems. But when you really need to stop panic attacks, these undesirable thoughts can be incredibly damaging.

These thoughts start cure anxiety trains of thought, where each thought builds on the one before it, each one of them becoming increasingly more negative and increasingly more likely to start a panic attack.

The great news is, these are very easy to stop.

You stop these thoughts simply by acknowledging them. Remember a moment ago when I asked if you ever catch yourself having these negative or unpleasant thoughts? Well, "catching" yourself having them is the key.

Because catching yourself having them stops them.

These thoughts can only exist when we're distracted and unaware that they're spinning around in our minds. They're like subconscious daydreams.

That is great news Panic Attacks those who suffer day in and day out, year in and year out. I have and I know that you can too.

THE SYMPTOMS

For me it started with heart palpitations. My thoughts immediately steered to fear. Then my throat would become dry so I could not swallow. Then my body would feel "weird". Dizziness and blurred vision. By this time I was convinced that I was about to die. I kept waiting for the symptoms to get worse and they did. I use to suffer from panic attacks so badly that I had to go to the hospital by ambulance. I was so embarrassed when the doctor checked me and told me that there was nothing wrong with me. When I had to go grocery shopping I would get Panic Attacks funny feeling in my stomach before I left the house. Once I got inside the grocery store I felt like I had to run out or else I would become overwhelmed. I dreaded the thought that I might have a panic attack in public. I had to talk to myself and prayed up and down each and every aisle of the store. I knew that if I ran out, my family would not have food and I would have to start all over again. The people in the store had no idea the personal torture I was experiencing. People at church had no idea how hard it was to sit in a large crowd.

AWARENESS

When the symptoms first started, I had no idea Panic Anxiety was happening to me. One day I was watching T.V. and some people were on a show talking about the symptoms and the light went on, "That's me! That's what I have Panic Anxiety going through". That was the beginning of my healing! Knowledge is power. I thank God that He allowed me to turn to the channel and hear those people talking. I also helped me to know that I was not alone. I suppose that those of you who suffer from the effects of anxiety are glad to hear that you are not alone.

Steps to Overcoming

1) READ

Read as much as possible about anxiety and understand what are some of the causes. (Email me for link to books).

2) PROFESSIONAL HELP

Go to a counselor or therapist to get to the bottom of the anxiety. The physical discomforts are trying to get your attention - Pay attention to a greater dis-ease within. Pray for God to send you to the right person. He will.

3) RELAXATION

Listen to a tape or CD for RELAXATION This was one of the things that helped me
tremendously. I needed to reprogram my mind with positive and true statements that were life giving and empowering. Click below for CD's and cassette tapes to help you overcome anxiety and panic attacks. Breathing correctly is a part of relaxation.

4) EXERCISE

Physical exercise has tremendous value. It releases chemicals that generate good feelings, called pheromones. It's good to feel good!

5) HEALING IN GOD'S WORD

Meditate on scriptures that enhance your trust in God. One scripture that helps me when I really let it sink in is: Matthew 5:25-34. Am I not more than a bird to God? You better believe it and so are you! Birds don't work or store up food yet God takes care of them. Wow! The next time you see a bird think about that!

6) MAP YOUR JOURNEY

Create a time line by drawing on a sheet of paper when your first signs of discomfort started. Write down what major events happened at that same time. Note the year/date. Go back as far as you can. This process helps you to take a bird's eye view of your life.
